The Do’s and Don’ts Of Smartphone Ownership

We’re specialists in smartphone repair in NZ but we also believe in prevention being better than the cure. So, while we can handle a repair if required, we’re just as happy to share some advice so you can minimise the need to engage our professional services in the future. Think of it as the Do’s and Don’ts of smartphone ownership.

The very first thing to do is to invest in the best case you can afford. A good smartphone case provides excellent protection for your device in many ways. For example, we spend a lot of time repairing shattered screens but this would be much less of a problem if everybody used a good-quality case; the best ones are highly effective at protecting the screen should you drop your phone. A case is also a great guard against sharp objects like keys in handbags or pockets.

You should also backup your phone regularly. This is something most smartphone owners fail to do and they pay for their negligence. New Zealand is a smartphone-first nation: smartphones edge out laptops and personal computers to claim the majority share of page views by device. Could you imagine the inconvenience if your phone was lost, stolen or even locked up by a ransomware attack? That’s why you should make a regular backup a priority.

Don’t use non-genuine chargers. It’s as simple as that. Always use the genuine item that comes with your phone, and replace it with exactly the same type. By using a non-genuine charger, you run the risk of ruining the battery and the phone itself. There’s also a safety hazard involved when using chargers that are not made specifically for your particular make and model. For the sake of a few dollars, and to prolong the life of your smartphone, always use a genuine charger.

Even if your phone has an exceptional IP rating, and is promoted as being water-resistant, do your very best to keep it away from liquid and heat sources. IP ratings can give a false sense of security and lead to carelessness, particularly when around the water, so always treat your device with as much care as you can.

Finally, something else that should be on your DO list: photograph your smartphone proof of purchase for future reference. You never know when you might need it.

No matter how well you look after your smartphone, there could be occasions when you need to have it repaired. When, or if, that time comes, get in touch with us and we’ll give it the expert service your device requires.
